My turnip greens,
Thursday last, I popped into the co-op to say 'ello (& bum $5 off of Alice). It was abuzz with people, awash with what Alice later called embodiment of co-op: vollies and shoppers and just-say-helloers all shopping and helping and chittery-chatting in a perfect fusion of loving and sharing (takes a breath), and it was beautiful. It's nothing but Thursdays for the next few weeks. Hope you'll come along for the ride. Now, the good word:
End of Semester Celebration
Apparently it's just one of those years in which dates refuse to be pinned down. Due to weather & other complicated circumstances, we've decided to move the end-of-semester BBQ to Thursday 19 June from 6:30pm at Treehugger Haven in Kingsford. It'll be a rockin' potluck with all the usual co-op fixins'. The address on that is 17-19 Forsyth Street, Unit 3, Kingsford. We're literally across the street from Uni, just across Barker. The house is home to coordinators past & present, and is happy to throw its doors open to all of our members. We will make some tasty treats, but think there's much awesomeness is folks bringing additional nibblies and desserts and whatnot. Oh, and musical instruments if you're so inclined. That sure would be loverly. Please join us! WINTER HOURS Beginning this week, the co-op will be switching over to winter hours. This means that the shop will be opened Thursday only on 12, 19 & 26 June, and 3 July, Veggies & eggs will be happening. Same policies as during session--egg orders in by Tuesday morning (for the time being), veggie orders in by Wednesday morning. We will be closed 10 and 17 July. No eggs or veggies those two weeks. We will return to normal shop hours when Uni resumes.
The winter vollie roster is attached. We'll still need a hand, so come & play!
VeggiesWhile winter may seem a disappointing time for fruit, think of all the potential in an apple: a snack in itself; cubed with cinnamon for porridge; grated in yogurt; sliced thin for salad; baked with a splash of honey; turned into pie; juiced and simmered with cloves and ginger, a pinch of nutmeg and two pinches of cinnamon.... Yum. Don't get me started on oranges. Veggies are happening this week. They're real pretty, and real good for you. Orders under the door by Wednesday 9:00 am, cause that's when we do the count. EggsMichelle, who gallantly picks organic oranges in the pouring rain, will be delivering eggs again this week. Please let me know as soon as humanly possible (by replying to this email or slipping a note under the door) if you want eggs. We will place the order at 11:00am on Tuesday, so after that no names will be accepted. Sorry, lovelies; we've gotta play fair. Perhaps a book-list for the thoughtful folds? An editorial on packaging and consumption? A poem? A pretty picture?
Please pass the fruits of your creative energy along to Gemma. She's still working on Thoughtful Foods' twice annual (very fancy) newsletter Sage. Contributions can be mailed to Gemma atgemgem13@gmail.com, or submitted in the pretty silver box in the shop. All forms of expression welcome. Featured Product: Lavender Shampoo Yes, it does smell pretty. This new shampoo (heaps better than our old shampoo) leaves hair very, very soft. It's ideal for folks with dry hair or dry scalp. So, if you're about out of whatever shampoo you've been using come on in & give it a go.
Also
We still have some specially priced (just $5!) fair trade chocolate--milk mocha & dark almond--sitting on the counter. All proceeds go to SoS. Grab one while you're in this week! CiaoI've just returned from a lovely adieu dinner with some friends. One of our ilk is off to enjoy the European sunshine while the rest of us slosh through Sydney rain. Lucky boy. The co-op fell into our conversation, and he remarked on the diversity of truly interesting people that slip in and out of its doors. Ya'll are friendly and thoughtful and quirky and cool. It's widely understood. I daresay it's fact. Remember, without you the co-op is just a little room filled with plastic barrels; you're the essence of co-op. Catch you at the shop.Love & creamy vegetable risotto, Meghan
