Week 14 Bulletin

Gorgeous creatures of the wind & rain,

We bluster and blow across campus, soaked to the skin after sudden cloudbursts--bicycles uncooperative, umbrellas torn asunder. Oh Sydney winter, you humble me with your grumpy ferocity.
I am damp.
And cold. Perpetually, through the end of July. Funny that. Is it colder in your house than it is outside, too? These are things I wonder.

There are many important messages to convey this week, among them issues about eggs and the end-of-semester co-op dinner. You'll pay attention, won't you?

Here's the good word:

Co-op
cook-up!

Thursday 19 June 2008
doors open @6:30, so to speak
Unit 3, 17-19 Forsyth Street, Kingsford

Come one, come all to the end-of-semester co-op cook-up! ALL members welcome & encouraged to come along. Please. We'll bribe you with burritos!
Please bring a dish to share (especially snacks or dessert or something delicious for drinking). Our menu is good, but we can always use more food!

It's going to be an awesome evening of great chatter, social butterflyitis (and possibly some wallflowerosis), and yummy, yummy food. I will see you there!

Winter hours
We're Thursdays only for the next few weeks, then planning to enjoy a two-week holiday. Please, please check the website for further details.

Eggs

It's imperative that you order eggs this week, as Michele will be on holiday for the two weeks following, and then we're closed for two weeks. That means if you want eggs you must order them this week. They keep for ages & ever, so get 4 dozen if you're worried about running out.
Mmm, think of all the quiche.

Veggies

Tis the season for stews and soups and the warmth of slow cooking, of baking and broiling, of simmering stove-tops. We'll supply the potatoes for your chowder, the carrots for your stew, the greens to keep you healthy through Sydney's brief (but surprisingly aggressive) winter.
Orders under the door by Wednesday 9am. Please include a telephone number at which we can contact you in case something pops up.

Volunteers
We always need you. Without vollies, there is no joy.
There are also no eggs, veggies, or clean jars.
So, if you've got a spare hour or two on Thursday or you're really craving good company, stop by & give a hand. Your co-op loves you.
Roster attached--thank you angelic Angela.

Speaking of which

We're crazy low on jars. Swing by & drop off your excess when you can. Glass only, please. Plastic melts when we try to sterilize it.
Thank you. You're gorgeous!

Featuring:
George Monbiot – UK author of Heat, Guardian journalist
Holly Creenaune – Friends of the Earth Australia and the Camp for Climate Action

Coal is Australia's number one contribution to climate change. Learn what people in the UK and here in Australia are doing to combat our coal addiction and how you can get involved.

George Monbiot is the UK author of Heat, The Age of Consent and Bring on the Apocalypse; Guardian journalist, and activist. He will speak about fossil fuels in the growth economy, and peaceful direct action in the movement to stop climate change.

Holly Creenaune is spokesperson for the Camp for Climate Action Australia and climate campaigner with Friends of the Earth Australia. Creenaune will explore coal dependency in Australia as hundreds of people prepare for peaceful direct action to stop the expansion of the world's largest coal port in Newcastle.

The Camp for Climate Action is a chance for everyday people to take action for a future free of dangerous climate change. By being a part of it – in Newcastle in July, at the coalface of climate change - you can be part of the transition to a just and sustainable future. Visit www.climatecamp.org.au to find out more.

These things she forgets
I'm sure that I've forgotten some vitally important thing, like shamelessly plugging the purple jasmine fundraiser rice on the counter & telling you how completely delightful last Thursday was in my flutterings in & out. Perhaps I'm supposed to remind you to study, to wear a jumper, to have a go at loving the raindrops and the perfect moon that's peaking at me through my skylight?

Or perhaps it's time for bed. All the best to students on exams--you'll be brilliant, you'll be gorgeous--and to everyone on being. Not always as easy as we'd like, eh? Sounds like something worth a sit-down with a warm mug of mulled apple cider.

See you at the shop, and the dinner.

Love & moonlight on stormy nights,

Meghan
