It's midday Sunday here in Baltimore and we're sitting on the south edge of a hurricane the snuck up the coast while no one was looking. The sky is slate with threat, the air sauna-sticky, and our backyards are still struggling to digest yesterday's deluge: it's a real pretty day. No sarcasm.
I confess, pretty co-opers, that I miss you, Sydney sunshine, and being in control of my own kitchen. Fortunately I'll be back on Thursday to bask sleepily in your happy-veggie light. My sources say the vibe at the co-op is rockin;, downright communal & empowering. It'll be nice to dive back in to all that good energy.
Short & sweet, here's the good word:

from Alice
NEW: Millet- Grown in Australia with no need for irrigation, I have recently fallen in love with this homely grain. High in B vitamins as well as folic acid, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and zinc (thanks wikipedia), I have also been told it is the only alkaline grain, although I can't find the proof right now. Also good for gluten-free people. Cook with 2.5 cups of water for each cup of millet, for 30-35 min. Dry roasting it first will give it more flavour and keep the grains together more, but the porridge-y consistency of un-roasted grains can be nice too.
White chocolate is also finally back, as is the Thoughtful Foods Fruit Mix.
OUT: Sunflower seeds (unavailable from the supplier, hopefully back soon), salvation jane honey (my mistake, back in week 10), and possibly some other random things, your patience appreciated, as I'm about to head off on a week long uni field trip, things will start flowing in again in week 10. Oh and tomato paste, back in week 10.
Eggs
Please get your egg orders to Lauris this week. The order will be placed midday Tuesday as per usual, so make sure you contact her on Monday to guarantee eggy goodness. Pick up is Thursday.
Veggies
YUM! I hope my beautiful flatmates remember to put in an order for me! Make sure your veggie order is under the door Tuesday night. We will place the order no later than midday Wednesday; if you don't want to miss out you must get your order in on time! I, for one, cannot wait to collect the deliciousness.

Foodies Workshops Update
We've just had our fun foodie workshops which saw thoughtful foodies having a fun filled afternoon baking 13 loaves of sourdough! We had initially planned another workshop later this semester where we would make rice paper (like to sort you get on vietnamese rice paper rolls) and rice noodles from scratch (yes, SCRATCH!) but due to being ridiculously busy with study- we've decided to postpone this until the uni holidays. Please still email us if you are interested so we know to keep you updated, foodies@thoughtfulfoods.org.au
Yoga in Your Life
Tyler Pike, the manager of the Yoga in Daily Life Kensington centre (117 Anzac Parade), offers 1 hour free yoga classes at Thoughtful Foods Co-op Thursdays 2pm. No need to bring anything – just come in loose-fitting clothing. Don't eat a big lunch beforehand.
Come have a go – its free, and one of the many reasons the co-op is a real community - more than just a place to get veggies. Yoga in Daily Life is an 8 Level system of postures, relaxation and breathing practices and meditation. The Thursday class at the co-op is a Level 1 class focussed on improving core strength, basic flexibility, breathing and feeling good. Yoga at the co-op is a relaxing experience with a diverse group of yogis – some experienced some beginners. If you have any questions about attending yoga, you can ring Tyler on 0410819996 or email him on Kensington@yogaindailylife.
For those of you interested in attending yoga classes at the Kensington centre, the new spring term begins 13 Oct. By enrolling in a term you can commit to progressing through the Yoga in Daily Life system at a dedicated yoga centre, which is a real sanctuary near the Uni. More information about classes at the Kensington centre and about the Yoga in Daily Life system can be found at www.yogaindailylife.org.au.

Book co-op update
from Merel
On Wednesday 24th September a small but enthusiastic group of book co-opers (Alice [coordinator], Andrew, and Merel) met to discuss how things were going with this great initiative; a little library of really amazing, life changing books that members feel should be read by as many others as possible. A big thanks to those who donated books over the last months. We have now sorted through all the books, and at the risk of offending some kind souls, have reorganised the shelves into life changing books (top shelf), useful self help books - finances, health etc (other shelves), and general novels - okay but..... These latter books (some self help, some novels) while useful, but not, in our opinion, really life changing, will be available free to a good home for the next two weeks (until Thurs 9th October). At this stage they will be donated to a local second hand bookshop. We welcome further donations of life changing books (temporary loans are okay too!) and encourage you to come and check out our selection!
Ciao
Well folks, I've run out of philosophical meandering, so I'll just say happy Monday, have a fantastic week, and clear skies for everyone.
With love and ocean pools,
