Week 13 Bulletin

My sun worshipers,

I hope you're wearing SPF 30 while frolicking in the gorgeous Sydney sun.  And probably some sunglasses, too.  (Love your retinas!)

It was a beautiful weekend, which I spent nose-to-book (and lips to cappuccino) in outdoor cafes.  My literary odyssey took me through anger and outrage to concern to determination to the hatching of plans.  Our patient Ange got an earful of ideas Saturday; even in all of this devastation, potential catastrophe, a future clouded and desperate, there is hope.  And it may very well start in a garden.

Here's the good word:

News
Special thanks
To everyone that has volunteered this semester & year, especially those of you that put in long hours as coordinators (or just 'cause you love us so much).  Every year is different at TF; I reckon ever year is better.  It's always a growth experience, and a chance to work with fantastic people.  Ange, Andrew, Gemma, Lauren & Lauris, along with Alice & Monika and many others have put tons of time in this semester, and deserve mad-praise & love for their hard work.
If you see 'em, tell 'em the rock.

Hours
Now that the semester is over and we're diving into exams & then summer, the co-op is only open on Thursdays.  Implications for eggs & veggies to follow.

Bulletin
The time has very nearly come for me to say adios to the beautiful bulletin.  It's been a fantastic ride; but it's time to ride off into a different sunset and hand the reigns over to someone new.
We need a keen volunteer that can spell, has decent grammar, and is vaguely organized to write/edit the bulletin starting in December.  You don't have to commit to the whole year; it would be great to recruit someone for summer at the very least.
If you're at all interested contact me & we can chat, meet, coffee, and hopefully start doing handover.

Coordinators & Management Committee
The time has come to find summer & next-semester coordinators & volunteers to fill management committee positions.  We're "upgrading" the structure of the coordinating collective to make it more cooperative, more flexible, and to ensure a wider proportion of the Thoughtful community has access to knowledge about how the shop works & keeps working.  If you're keen to get involved please contact Andrew
We'll have a chat about this stuff at the AGM & get people trained as soon as possible.

Speaking of which:

Thoughtful AGM!
from Ange
This year we are going 'all out' for our AGM and have turned into a huge end-of-year celebration. The event is our THANK YOU gift to all the volunteers, the coordinating collective, and management committee for a job well done! And in the spirit of the co-op, we are going to provide for our own amusement; that's right-- your performances!
If you have any serious items to raise at the AGM please let me know too.

Performances might include singing, dancing, skits, stand-up comedy, poetry reading, musical performances, contortion of the body, puppetry, juggling, acrobats, trapeze, clowns …etc…etc. Its not serious at all, and there will be lots of audience participation too. Oh, and feel free to dress up... funny hats!
(Please sign up today by contacting Angela. Entries close 7th of November.)

Eggs
I know there will be eggs; I just don't know who is ordering them.  As such, you can send your egg orders to me by Tuesday at 11am (after which it's too late 'cause I'm goin' to the beach), and I will send them off to the appropriate party.  We'll have this sorted a bit better next week.
Do not reply to this email, because your order will not make it in.
Cheers!

Veggies
Exams don't stop veggies!  Make sure you order your goodly greens and whatever other miracles of spring appear will appear this week.  Simply pop your order under the door by Wednesday at 9:00am.  Paid-in-full with the correct date & your member number on the envelope.
As per usual, veggies really need to be picked up by 5:30pm; preferably 5.  If you're going to be late call us!  For real, folks.  We're pretty patient, we just need to know what the deal is.
If you don't, we give your vege to someone that needs it.

Community
I'm a bit lax in this department this week; however, I did notice that ...

Walk Against Warming
is on again on Saturday 15 November in ... the Domain I think.
I've seen some posters across town, but the website isn't up to date.  More on this if I can find it.  Or ask your local activist!

Ingram Colloquium on International Law and Development
Climate Change and Sustainable Development: Challenges for the Pacific

Thursday 6 November, 3:00 - 7:00pm
Law Building G23
You must RSVP

Here's the spiel:
"The Colloquium will examine the challenges faced by developing countries in the Pacific region in mitigating and adapting to climate change while meeting their social and economic needs, and the role Australia can play in assisting them to meet these challenges. Speakers will discuss the measures that developing states in the Pacific are using or could adopt, the role of these states in the negotiations for a post-2012 international climate regime, and how governance of climate-related policy issues might be improved within these states to better contribute to the goals of sustainable development."

That's a wrap
I feel like a bit of a bulletin slacker this week, my friends.  Somewhere between rearranging the lounge room, planning parties, conducting research, developing a fantastical economic stimulus package (no really!), and rockin' out to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I almost forgot the bulletin

Worked out alright, though, huh?

I hope ya'll had an awesome weekend & are looking forward to a beautiful week full of delicious fruits and pumpkin dishes (it's almost Halloween!).  Stay tuned next week for ranting & raving about the US elections (which are beginning to look a bit like a made-for-TV movie).

Hopefully I'll see ya'll at the co-op.

Love & banana-kiwi smoothies,

Meghan
