A very good morning to you all. I hope you had a lovely weekend. For me half of it involved a mini-adventure up to Cowan on a field trip, which was interesting enough. Camping on a field station doesn't seem so out-in-the-wilderness when you can hear the Newcastle train whistling by every hour. Anyway people, work calls, and therefore so does the bus (flat tyre still to be fixed). Here is this weeks news (it's a fairly quiet week this week):
News
Out of shop hours vollie wanted
We're looking for someone who's interested in about an hours worth of out of shop hours work a week that needs to happen between Thursday evening and about 3pm on Friday. It involves some data entry to help us keep a better track of what is happening with GST things, so you'd need access to a computer and internet, and then dropping some stuff off on campus each Friday afternoon. It will earn you a 25% discount as well as getting the warm fuzzy feeling feeling from knowing your helping your co-op ticking over. If you're interested and for more info, drop Monika an email (willhof@yahoo.com). 2009 Memberships
A reminder that you need a 2009 membership now for discounts on bread orders, vegetable box orders or for granting shop discounts. If you still haven't got around to renewing this year, please do so this week. Make sure your 2009 membership number is clearly written on your orders or they may not go through. When buying goods in the shop, you'll need to show your 2009 membership card to get your discount, so please remember to bring it along with you.
PRODUCT NEWS
From Suzie
It's leading up to Easter time so naturally this week's products are all about chocolate! Aside from this, a lot of other staples are back in including a range of fairtrade organic rice.
*New Products*
Chocolate
A new load of delicious vegan dark chocolate has been ordered along with some fairtrade organic Easter chocolate gift packs. These are sold in packs of 3 for around $12, with only a limited number available (15).
Rice
Our main supplier for fair trade products, Alter eco, have had a new shipment come into their warehouse overseas. This means we were able to replenish our stock of fairtrade organic rice, so expect to see on our shelves soon: white jasmine rice, black rice, coral rice and purple jasmine rice!
Why can't we get organic Australian rice?
Because some of the Australian crops have sadly been failing due largely to the drought. We'll keep trying to get some in though!
*Back in stock*
Mung beans, adzuki beans, quinoa, sugar, soy milk.
*Correction from last week's bulletin*
Well what a nice surprise last week when we opened our deliver from our supplier, Honest to Goodness, and found not only organic mung means but also organic biodynamic Australian (those are some magic words aren't they?) Adzuki beans! Unfortunately, our Fava beans didn't make it so please ignore all my ranting and raving last week.
Regular items:
Yoga
Free yoga on the lawn outside the co-op every Thursday at 2pm.
No eggs until the 9th of April
A reminder that eggs will not be available until Thursday April 9. If you'd like to place an order for that day, please order as usual in the shop or email eggs@thoughtfulfoods.org.au.
Fruit & Veg
Please get all orders in by midday on Wednesday. All order must be paid for in advance - money placed inside order form.
Fruit and vegetables do not attract a member or volunteer discount as we already sell them at close to 'cost price'.
Boxes can be picked up between 2pm and 5pm on Thursday. If you can not get your box before 5pm, please call the shop on 9385 6097.
Bread Bread arrives on Thursday morning and must be picked up that day before 5pm. Orders must be in by the end of the previous Thursday and paid for in advance. Again, no member or volunteer discount is available as it is sold at close to 'cost price' - it's so cheap!
Please talk to a volunteer in the shop if you'd like to place an order. If you'd like to see a price list, please see the bread page on our website (
http://thoughtfulfoods.org.au/bread).
Training
If you haven't had a training session, and you want to volunteer, come by for a one hour session from 11am or 3pm on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Weekly Meeting
Weekly meetings are held in the ARC building (the opposite side of the Roundhouse to Thoughtful Foods - it's big and green and you can't miss it) from 6pm every Wednesday. If you arrive late there should be someone at the desk to direct you, or a sign on the window with a number to call.
COMMUNITY
These bags are designed to keep your vegetables longer. From what I read they are made from a special plastic that absorbs a gas called ethylene, which is given off by the packaged produce. An Anti-fog treatment also reduces moisture levels. These bags are certified by the Biological Farmers Association of Australia as being safe for the packaging of organic produce.
They were purchased online. The minimum order was 40 (4x10). I only need one set of ten therefore the rest are up for grab if anyone is interested. They could go individually for 50c each or as a set of ten for 5$ each.
Hope these bags help keep your greens fresh for longer.
