Pfew! The end of another semester. At least, the end of the lecture period. Now it's on to all those lovely periods of pencil scratching on paper we look forward to so much. Left all the readings to the end of the period? Mmm... join the club. How hard is it to focus on pages and pages of small black print on white paper when it's finally sunny outside? Today my procrastination activities involved baking an apple loaf and a cauliflower, pea and red wine risotto - not before covering my kitchen on 5 sides with red wine though. What's that you say? Clean the kitchen? Why, don't mind if I do! No time like right now before I get to Chapter 5...
Fairtrade Coffee & Tea Tasting!
Come join us for a Free tasting session of Fairtrade organic coffee from East Timor, Columbia, PNG, Ethiopia and Mexico, and Fairtrade organic teas from Sri Lanka. Decaf will be available and there will be Aussie tea and coffee to try as well as tasty treats for sale at our bake stall.
Also we’re looking for one more person to help out on the day, and one more espresso machine to borrow for the day. If you can help with either of these things e-mail us at orders@thoughtfulfoods.org.au!
In NSW we are only a third of the way to reaching proper protection for our oceans. The Torn Blue Fringe is NPA’s landmark report that sets out to the NSW Government how to build our marine parks and sanctuary network. While South Australia has just created 19 new marine parks, NSW has not announced any new marine parks since 2005. It’s imperative the report’s proposals are implemented immediately!
Show your support by signing our e-lobby form at
http://www.marine.org.au/
Our target is to generate over 2000 email forms to send onto the Ministers in charge in the next two weeks. So please take 2 minutes to fill out our form, then forward it onto your friends and family. Show the decision makers that healthy oceans are a priority for our future!
For more information about marine parks please visit www.marine.org.au
Thanks for helping make Blue the New Green!
The Government is currently canvassing community opinion on whether Australia should formally protect our human rights - so we're inviting you to host a GetTogether in your neighbourhood on June 11th, to make sure your community's voice is heard in this historic consultation.
It's your chance to create change from the grassroots up - while meeting others who share your concerns and your postcode:
http://www.getup.org.au/
Some powerful voices in Government are hoping there's no community interest in protecting human rights - but we already know that's not the case. We know of hundreds of Australians who've been turned away from the official Consultations around the nation because they were full.
We don't think that any Australian should miss out from having their say - that's why we want you to host your own. If you missed out on the official consultations, went but had more to say, or just want to work for grassroots change in your community - this is your opportunity.
It's fun and easy - we'll provide you with everything you need on the night (even the guests!). All we need from you is to pick a venue (a local cafe, library, or your living room) and sign up now:
http://www.getup.org.au/
Our rights are not an abstract concept - they're about our everyday lives; education; health; climate change and water. Likewise, the GetUp movement is not an abstract concept either - we're real people, in towns and cities around the nation, willing to work together for change.
That's a powerful thing, and we have a unique opportunity to use it - by pushing our Government to join the rest of the democratic world with legislation to protect our rights. Your GetTogether will be tasked with creating a submission to tell them exactly what you want that to look like.
Thousands of Australians will be lining up to take part on June 11 - but first we need you to host an event for them to come to.
Thanks for being a part of history,
The GetUp team
