Food Glorious FOOOOD! I spent my morning in a dilemma as to what my favourite brunch food was and how I'd be able to transport it to my friends' house. I ended up improvising some peach coconut muffins (which really fall outside of the brunch category) as I had to work within the constraints of available ingredients and maneuverability. We then spent a total of six hours with our friends, consuming, for what now seems like the entire day, the delicious mix of dishes everyone contributed. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday, I say! I hope everyone had an equally fulfilling (hehe... lame pun) end to their weekend.

Cleaning Bee Report
From Andrew
The cleaning bee was a success! Though we were short one Cassie due to sickness - here's hoping I won't catch it - I had no less than five (possibly six, I can't count) people come by to help. Thank you all - I couldn't have managed without you. We cleaned everything from top to bottom (literally!) and the place looks much better now. Please remember to do your best to keep it that way.
Pre-Loved Things
From James
Wanted: Staples, wide clear sticky tape, kettle... Got any unwanted/pre-loved spares lying around your home/office. Bring them
down to the shop and we'll be able to make use of them for sure.
Free Stuff!
From Andrew
So, we seem to have accumulated a pair of skis and four (or five, or six - I said I can't count!) of those bamboo outdoor lantern things sometime during the past few years. (I've offered the skis to the UNSW ski society but nobody ever came by to pick them up). We've decided to leave everything out the front of the shop in the hope that anyone has use/need/want of them. You can pick them up whenever it is convenient - they have been left just to the left of the white noticeboard outside the shop. First come first served!
Shop volunteering
From Andrew
We had a great response last week (possibly) from my email. It really made a difference. Not only were we able to take the day slowly - much easier on everyone - but we had time to do a lot of the small (but important!) tasks that haven't been done for a while. If you have time again this Thursday and would like to volunteer, please drop by and we'll find something fun for you to do.
Also, just a reminder that the week one (begins Monday 20 July) roster is up on the chalkboard. Now is a great time to look through your availability over the coming thirteen weeks and put reserve a permanent shift for a time which is convenient for you. This coming week is the final week we are only open on Thursday.
Week two social event - Welcome Back Dinner/Enviro Collective Climate Camp fundraiser
From Andrew
Well, that's a mouthful but so is the great food that we will have during our social event in week two! It will be a chance to meet new people, raise funds for a good cause and share some great food. More details to come shortly but keep that evening free.
Training Day
From Andrew
We have a few new coordinators in semester two who need training on processes in order for them to feel confident about looking after the shop by themselves. Additionally, existing coordinators also benefit from a refresher of things which are easily forgotten and general information sharing about experiences during the first half of the year.
While we will be holding a training day in order to strengthen the coordinating crew in preparation for the second semester, we also realise that other Thoughtful Foods members may be interested in finding out more about how the cooperative runs behind the scenes, or would like to be trained in order to take on more responsibility as volunteers. We are still trying to confirm a date for our training day but it looks as though it will be held on Saturday August 1 in the Blockhouse - stay tuned to the bulletin for confirmation and more details. If you are interested (even slightly) let Andrew (info@thoughtfulfoods.org.au) know and he'll make sure you are kept in the loop.
One other thing
From Andrew
Thanks again to all the members who gave some of their time to helping run the co-op over the past week. It has made life so much easier for us!

The Burning Season
Every year deliberately lit fires rage across Indonesia. They destroy pristine rainforest, endanger orangutans and contribute to climate change. Dorjee Sun, a young carbon trading entrepreneur, goes in search of a solution.
Hugh Jackman narrates this documentary and Al Gore and Arnold Schwarzenegger appear in the film about the destruction of our rainforest and the threat to orangutans. The film had its international premiere at New York's Tribeca Film Festival and also screens at the Sydney Film Festival in June 2009 in conjunction with the World Society of the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to mark World Environment Day.
