A hidden gem in the co-op?
Have you seen a green gem on the snack shelf? Been looking for something savoury to nibble on but wanted something different to tamari roasted almonds? Then try our red kale chips! These are a new addition to Thoughtful Foods in 2012 and have been met with widespread approval. In fact, I'm writing out of the apparent fan base they seemed to have developed. Have you given them a try? Eat them alone, crumble them over salads or even hot soups. What are you waiting for?

This sauce is great for salads, steamed veggies, as a dip or marinade or to drizzle over rice and even on toast!
Genmai Miso is made from fermented soybeans and brown rice yielding an antioxidant and living enzyme rich paste. Tahini, made from ground sesame seeds, is rich in calcium, iron and protein.
Ingredients: All of which are in stock in the co-op now!
1 heaped tablespoon genmai miso (other types will also work) 2 tablespoons sesame oil 1-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or lemon (to taste) 3 heaped tablespoons tahini 1tablespoon honey (or other sweetener)
Combine all ingredients in a jar or bowl. Stir or shake vigorously. Add warm water gradually until the consistency is as you prefer it. If you add only enough water for it to combine, you will have a very thick creamy sauce. If you keep adding water you can get it to be more of a salad dressing consistency.
The main form of volunteering that members do at Thoughtful Foods is helping run the shop. This includes restocking barrels and jars, cleaning, washing up, using the till and generally helping people out. However, there are also plenty of one-off tasks, jobs that require particular skills and out-of-shop tasks and we're eager to find volunteers who can take them on. Have a look at the list below, and if you are able to help with anything, please drop by the co-op and let us know, or email training(at)thoughtfulfoods(dot)org(dot)au . The list is updated regularly, however for the most current info, ask in the shop. The co-op is what you make it, so if you have an idea you would like added to this list, we'd love to hear from you!
